Here are some of the references to Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge

And other fighting game references

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge is out now, and something we spotted from early gameplay footage is that this beat ’em up title has its fair share of fighting game references. Naturally, any game in this genre needs multiple attacks for every playable character, and what better place to find inspiration for said attacks than from legendary fighters such as Street Fighter 2 and Mortal Kombat?

Now that the game is officially released, fans are taking the time to point out all of the different fighting game references they can find in the new TMNT retro-style game. Based on a compilation from one Twitter user, there are quite a few to see.

Assist_Ok on the social media platform uploaded a montage that walks us through each fighting game inspired attack compared to its move of origin.

Right out of the gate, we see an absolutely iconic attack being mirrored. Raphael performs a large, sweeping uppercut, which can easily be tied back to the Shoryuken from countless Street Fighter games. While it’s likely that this is where Raph’s moves were pulled from, Assist_Ok also notes that the attack looks even more like Sol Badguy’s uppercut from Guilty Gear.

There are all kinds of Street Fighter maneuvers found throughout this TMNT game. April O’Neil has Chun-Li’s up kicks, Michelangelo performs E. Honda’s sumo headbutt, and Donatello even has an attack from the Marvel vs. Capcom series.

It’s not just Capcom’s fighting games that are represented here, though. Mikey also performs a special move that is unequivocally Liu Kang’s famous bicycle kick from Mortal Kombat.

Below are just some of the references found so far, but as fans continue to play Shredder’s Revenge (and replay it over and over again), there’s a good chance we’ll see even more sprout up.
