Production company Redrum halts filming on the Netflix series, The Chosen One, following the tragic crash that killed two actors.
Netflix’s The Chosen One has halted production following a car crash that killed two cast members and injured several crew members.
As reported by Variety, the show’s production company, Redrum, has elected to shut down production on the upcoming live-action adaptation of Mark Millar’s American Jesus for the foreseeable future following the tragic deaths of two actors. It is currently unknown when The Chosen One will continue production following this break. The show officially began filming in April.
It was reported on June 18 that two cast members of the upcoming Netflix series, The Chosen One, had been killed in a fatal car accident when their van flipped after running off the road near Mulegé in the Baja California Sur peninsula. The crash killed actors Raymundo Garduño Cruz and Juan Francisco González Aguilar.
Two other cast members and four crew members were injured in the crash as well, though all six are reportedly in stable condition at the time of writing. An investigation into the accident is ongoing. They had been working in the Santa Rosalia area that day and were driving towards the local airport.
The Chosen One is based on the comic book series by Millar and Peter Gross, Chosenwhich was originally published by Dark Horse in 2004. It was later published by Image Comics as American Jesus in 2009. Similar to the comics, Netflix’s The Chosen One follows a 12-year-old boy who discovers that he is the reincarnation of Jesus Christ with a mission to save humankind.
